According to the World Steel Association, blast furnace pig iron production in 37 countries and regions in the first three quarters of 2023 was 986.7 million tonnes, up 1.5% year-on-year. These 37 countries and regions accounted for about 98% of world production in 2022.
- Asia's blast furnace pig iron production increased by 2.8% year-on-year to 829.5 million tonnes.
- EU-27 blast furnace pig iron production fell 10.9% year-on-year to 49.130 million tonnes. Except Germany, the other countries’s output down more or less.
- Production in Russia, other CIS countries and Ukraine combined was 47.532 million tonnes, up 2.0% year-on-year.
- North American production is estimated to have declined 3.8% year-on-year to 21.515 million tonnes.
- South American production fell 4.8% year-on-year to 21.249 million tonnes
