World's first 1.2 million ton hydrogen metallurgy demonstration project (hereinafter referred to as the hydrogen metallurgy demonstration project) of HISCO has achieved the safe and smooth continuous production of green DRI products. At present, the metallization rate of DRI products has reached 94%, and the key indicators have fully reached the standard of qualified products, which can be used as high-quality clean raw materials for high-end materials manufacturing, and is an important raw material to replace electric furnace scrap, especially high-quality scrap steel.
HISCO's hydrogen metallurgy demonstration project is the first "direct reduction of coke oven gas in zero reforming shaft furnace" process technology, using coke oven gas as the gas base. The coke oven gas contains 55%-65% hydrogen, which can be catalytically cracked into CO and H₂ in the hydrogen-based shaft furnace. After self-reforming, the ratio of hydrogen to carbon in the process gas can reach more than 8:1, which is the highest ratio of hydrogen in the gas-based shaft furnace direct reduction process in industrial production, and is closest to the future 100% hydrogen reduction process.
At the same time, the reactor of the shaft furnace of HISCO's hydrogen metallurgy demonstration project has been optimised for high ratios of hydrogen content, and the green hydrogen switching function has been reserved, so that industrial trials of switching to higher ratios of hydrogen-rich reducing gas and pure hydrogen as reducing gas can be carried out directly without large-scale transformation, providing a basis for the future 100% green hydrogen shaft furnace direct reduction.
