Continuous casting electromagnetic stirring(brief EMS) technology refers to the electromagnetic metallurgy technology, which is used to improve the quality of continuous casting billets by installing different types of EMS at different locations of the CCM. The generated electromagnetic force to enhance the flow of the liquid, thus change the heat transfer condition during the solidification of the liquid. The EMS products can be sorted by its power or work position.
According to power supply, there are DC conduction type EMS and AC induction type EMS.
According to the magnetic field form, constant magnetic field type EMS; Rotating magnetic field type
According to the number of electrical phases, dividing 2-phase EMS and 3-phase EMS.
CCM can set the EMS at different locations, like the mould-EMS, secondary cooling area EMS, and solidification end EMS.
Compared with other methods of stirring steel (such as vibration, blowing), the application of electromagnetic stirring in continuous casting machine achieves contactless energy conversion and can obtain different stirring effects by adjusting parameters according to the requirements of continuous casting steel quality. The use of electromagnetic stirring significantly improves the equiaxial crystal rate and refines the secondary dendrite spacing. It is an effective means to improve the quality of cast billets and expand the production variety of continuous casters.
