Generally, in the steelmaking process classification of the EAF is based on specific working features. such as nature of power supply, furnace lining type, charging mode, output power of furnace transformer and tapping mode of molten steel. Common the EAF can be classified by its below features.
Power supply nature: The AC EAF or DC EAF is named by its input type of power supply.
Lining type: Basic lining EAF uses Alkaline refractory such as magnesia, dolomite, etc., and acid lining type EAF uses silicon brick, quartz sand, white mud material,etc.
Charging mode: The charging mode of the EAF divides into top filling and side charge way, the later is mostly manual feeding.
Transformer output power: According to the transformer output power, regular power (RP) EAF refers to its transformer output power less than 400kVA/t; for high power(HP) EAF this value is between 400 kVA/t ~700kVA/t; for ultra high power EAF(UHP) this value is over than 700kVA/t.
Tapping mode: At practical operation, the EAF can be named at tapping mode, three main modes include side tapping, center bottom tapping(CBT) and eccentric bottom tapping (EBT).
